Predator Director Picked by Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez has chosen the director for the next Predator film. Nimrod Antal, who directed KONTROLL and VACANCY. Rodriguez is on the projects as producer.

Rodriguez has this comment on the project’s story:

“It involves a very intense group of people stranded on a Predator planet discovering unspeakable horrors.”

Predator is a beloved character, so reboot and remakes remain tricky and final judgment should be made once the film is out. But Rodriguez’s involvement is be a good thing as he’s just a fanboy at heart like many of us. Here’s hoping his directors choice turns out well. Yup.

“Tremors” was one of the fun monster movies to come out of the 90’s. It’s gained quite a cult following and spun off with three straight to video sequels and a TV show. Now it looks like it’s time again for some more graboid action as a fifth “Tremors” film is in the works as a reboot for the franchise.

A sequel to the 2007 monster hit ‘Cloverfield’ is still a possibility.  The first film, if you remember, was about a giant monster attacking New York City, and the film was a pseudo home movie of said events.  But, will this ever see the light of day?  Read on for more…

‘Apes’ to Rise again?

I know this is all sorts of wrong, but it’s so damned funny!

Some of us have been unlucky enough to see Tim Burton’s remake of ‘The Planet of the Apes’. We watched in abject terror as our beloved classic was retold as an SFX heavy action film, instead of the more thoughtful, though lower-budgeted classic. Well, news is that another ‘Apes’ film has been swinging around over at Fox and we might just get it. But, it’s not a remake of the classic, and it’s not a sequel to Burton’s. So, what the hell is it? Read on for the skinny.

‘… of the Dead’. Romero at it Again.

Things come in threes. First, we had the classic ‘Dead Trilogy’ (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead – all have been remade, some much more successfully than others) and the three’s don’t stop there. Romero is working on his sixth “Dead” film overall (and third of the decade) with a still unnamed feature. What’s going to happen? Who’s going to die? How many zombies will there be? Will he still talk down to the audience and make us feel like speds like he did in ‘Diary of the Dead’? Who knows. Read on info and a still!

‘Boondock Saints’ Sequel Aleady being Shot?

Who woulda thunk it? Now, I’m not going to be one of those film snob guys, and say I didn’t enjoy the original ‘Boondock Saints’, which seems to be the popular thing to do, because I truly had a good time watching it. I do have a problem with Troy Duffy, the infamous director who wrote the film while working at a bar in Hollywood. After watching the documentary “Overnight” about how he became a big shot and then lost it all, the viewer can’t help but despise the man responsible for such a fun cult film. Wall Street at screamindemon.com

Seems that the super-intellegent folks over at Fox continue to make all the right moves. This time, in the middle of a spiraling economy, they decided the best thing to do would be to greenlight a sequel to the Oliver Stone’s ‘Wall Street’. Now, I’m all for continuing on a great story, but, come on, ‘Wall Street’ was a stand alone film, and who in their right mind is going to pay to watch a film about rich guys during times like these? I know there’s more to it than that, but is anyone going to see past the millions of imaginary dollars changing hands? I wouldn’t. Read on for who might be returing, who won’t be and Fox’s general thinking on the matter.

Cheadle joins ‘Iron Man 2′

It seems that Terrence Howard’s time in the Iron Man universe ended a bit prematurely. Sadly, he is not going to appear in the second film, but Don Cheadle will be taking his place. The character of Jim Rodes is an important one as he is Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) best friend and eventually becomes War Machine. I enjoyed Howard’s performance, but I’d have to say at times he felt a bit flat. Let’s see if the Oscar-nominated Cheadle can give Rodes a bit more life. Read on for more.

Jack Black Back with ‘Kung Fu’ Scribes

Kung Fu Panda is still one of my favorite films of the year. It was fun, exciting and consisted of a very colorful cast of characters the the viewer could easily enjoy. Hell, Jack Black took a break from the usual fart jokes and bathroom humor (that’s still funny, don’t get me wrong) to voice Poe, the wannabe kung fu master, noodle making panda. Good times. Great film. Fun for the whole family. Now, that I’m done with my advertisement, read on for some great news if you’re as much a fan of the film as I am.

‘Feast 2: Sloppy Seconds’ Teaser

I am soooooo excited for the sequel to the indie hit ‘Feast’.  The first film was a fun, roller-coaster of a ride as the audience followed an unusual group of strangers that must band together to survive for the night as a gang of monsters come hunting.  The sequel ‘Sloppy Seconds’ will start the morning after the original ended.  Will the blonde bimbo pay for bailing on her friends?  Will cranky, BAMF dude survive the second film?  And, how the hell is Clu Gulager in the second film if his Bartender character was killed off?  By the way, he hangs out at the New Beverly all the time (name-dropping for the win).  Well, if any of you are fans of the first film, I’m sure you’re as excited as me for the sequel.  Read on for the teaser trailer.

Remember a little film called ‘Inside Man’ starring Clive Owen and Denzel Washington?  Well, Universal sure as hell does, and the $175 million it took in at the box office.  Spike Lee’s film was a sleeper hit and an entertaining ride as the audience follows the two leads as one (Clive Owen) puts his plan into motion to pull off a robbery with more going on beneath the scenes than it seems, and the police negotiator (Denzel Washington) who wants nothing more than to end the standoff with the bank robbers in a peaceful fashion.  Read on for more info on the upcoming sequel.

Jon Favreau to direct Iron Man 2!

July 10, 2008 by Mikey B

Let’s start an Iron Man rumor, shall we?  Jon Favreau is going to be directing the sequel to the box-office smash Iron Man.  Thank God.  Iron Man is probably in my top 3 comic book movies of all time, and by far one of the most entertaining films I’ve seen this year.  I was like a school-girl drooling over a pop star, watching Robert Downey Jr. kick all sorts of ass and argue with a vacuum.

…Marvel Studios and Iron Mandirector Jon Favreau have reached a deal for him to helm the sequel, due out in 2010. (Robert Downey Jr had a sequel clause in his contract so he’s on board.)…

I’m really hoping they don’t rush this out, because we’ve all seen Pirates 3 and Spiderman 3 (which I use as my bar as worst movie ever – I know there’s worse, but I’d rather watch Glitter then see Spiderman 3 again).  Let’s hope that these rumors are true so A) I don’t have to repeal this post and B) we’ll have a kick ass sequel worthy of following up the first film.

Head over to Deadline Hollywood to get the extremely unbiased story (sarcasm built-in).

Anyone remember that film that made a ton of money with Ben Stiller?  No, not that one, and not that one either.  I’m talking about ‘Night at the Museum’, a cute little film that made a ton of money at the BO a few years ago.  Well, leave it to the studios not to turn down some quick cash.  The newest addition to the cast is the famous Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap) who will be playing Ivan the Terrible in the sequel to the adventure film that pitted lowly night guard, Stiller, against an entire museum that comes to life at night. Geeks of the world, unite!  I’ll admit it.  I liked the 300.  It was an entertaining popcorn flick that made the audience feel like going home and breaking something (and putting on loincloth and rampaging through your local venues).  Well, it seems that Hollywood liked it too and we’re about to get another one.  How is this going to work?  You’ve got me.  The ending to 300 was pretty much it. I  don’t see how the story is going to continue.
