I am a movie lover. Ever since I was a kid, I just love watching movies. In particular, I like watching them in theaters. Old, new, doesn’t matter. Don’t get me wrong, I love my HDTV with surround sound to watch my DVD’s and Blu-Ray’s on…but I also love the theater…even with it’s drawbacks of hiked prices, rude patrons, etc. My first memory of going to a movie was Jaws. It was at a drive in called the Thunderbird in Charlotte, NC. My parents took me and my brother. They brought us blankets and toys so we would be pre-occupied in the back of the family station wagon while they watched this fishing movie. I screamed throughout the ending and had nightmares for a couple weeks. Laugh it up. But it was the beginning of my love of movies, in particular, horror and action films.
The theater pictured above is the Elkin theater located in Elkin, NC. I am pretty sure it is no longer being used, but back in the late ’70s and early ’80s, it was the only theater that town had. Being a small town, the employees also didn’t care how old you were for any of the films. When my family would visit relatives there, the one thing we looked forward to was going to the movies with our cousins, as we were able to get into the R films without question. It is the theater I saw The Thing, Don’t Go In The House, Friday the 13th, The Amityville Horror, My Bloody Valentine, and a slew of other films that I was not supposed to be seeing at my age. It was awesome and I LOVED that spooky-ass theater and it had a LOT to do with what fueled my love for horror films.
I am telling you all of this in the About page because it truly what this site will attempt to be about. A site ran by people who love movies for people who love movies. I have no real staff set in stone at the moment (feel free to contact me if you have anything to offer) and my role, aside from keeping this place running, will be to contribute my own reviews on certain films and comment when I can. I am not real big on movie news and what actor is playing what character. I am more of the type of person who likes to talk about a movie after they have seen it with other people who have seen it. So I am hoping that when this site is up and running full steam, we will have 4 or 5 individuals that will offer something a little bit different than the other. I am hoping to have a site with a few good commentaries, some news to note, reviews, and discussions\arguments on film. I would like to see if we can create a place where people who enjoy movies can get together and bullshit about them, regardless of anyone’s knowledge of movies in general.
So keep checking back and pitching in if you want, as I no the direction I would like to see this go, but I have no idea what the route will be. We did good with The Dreamin’ Demon, and we are hoping we can do the same with this site as well.
