New Releases For 5/12

Once again we have all your entertainment needs covered this week. This week is headlined by the incredible Taken starring Liam Neeson. You have to run out and grab this immediately if you haven’t seen it yet. This is also a pretty big week for Blu-ray releases.

Taken (2008) Action - A former spy relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter, who has been forced into the slave trade.

Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans (2008) Horror/Action - An origins story centered on the centuries-old feud between the race of aristocratic vampires and their onetime slaves, the Lycans.

The Grudge 3 (2009) Horror - Kayako and Toshio’s curse continues by haunting The Grudge 2’s only survivor, Jake, who’s now confined to a psychiatric hospital after his family’s alleged suicide. When the curse of the grudge finally kills him too, news reaches Kayako’s sister, Naoko, in Japan. As Jake’s case worker, Dr. Sullivan (Shawnee Smith, the Saw series), investigates his Chicago home, the curse continues to claim more victims. As the rage spreads, it becomes clear that Jake’s horrifying stories are true, and Naoko is the only hope of finally burying the grudge once and for all.

S. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale (2009) Mystery/Sci-fi- Seven years after her brother’s death, Samantha Darko is on the run…from her shattered home, from her bizarre past, and even from herself. But when she and her friend Corey are stranded in a desert town, they witness a meteorite crash that fractures time…and begins a countdown to the end of the world. Now Sam must rely on the frightening visions that plague her dreams to overcome her own dark destiny and set time back on course before everything she knows is destroyed!

The Anatomist (1961) Horror- A doctor employs two men to dig up graves in order for him to have bodies on which to perform experiments, but the men begin to get their own ideas of where to get bodies.

B.T.K. (2008) Horror- Inspired by the real-life serial Killer, B.T.K is the gruesome story of Dennis L. Rader, a murderer who systematically tortured and killed his victims for over two decades while evading the police for over 30 years. Living a seemingly normal life as a husband, father, security officer and church president, Raders unquenchable thirst for blood ultimately led him to commit the most horrific crimes imaginable.

Doc (1971) Western - A different take on the story of the shootout at the OK Corral

Fear(s) of the Dark (2007) Anime/Horror- Several scary black-and-white animated segments in different styles appeal to our fear(s) of the dark.

Gilgamesh – Complete Collection (Reissue) (2003) Anime/Horror- Set in a future where the sky has been changed into a giant mirror, two teenage children are caught in a struggle between a group of super-powered beings and a mysterious woman’s team of children aiming to stop them.

Hellbride (2007) Horror - Everything is working out for Nicole Meadows. She has a great job. She has an adoring boyfriend who has just proposed. She has a doting father who is preparing the wedding. She also has a dark secret. And a cursed engagement ring. Come the wedding day, there will be bloodshed. But at least there will be cake, too.

Holy Flame of the Martial World (1983) Martial Arts - Two children whose parents were killed in an attempt to possess the martial world’s most powerful weapon, the Holy Flame, are raised by competing masters, trained in kung fu in preparation for a fateful duel.

Plague Town (2008) Horror - An American family visiting their Irish roots accidentally stumbles on a horde of bloodthirsty mutant children.

Possession (2009) Horror - A woman’s life is thrown into chaos after a freak car accident sends her husband and brother-in-law into comas. Thrills arrive after the brother-in-law wakes up, thinking he’s his brother.

Black Sheep (1996) Comedy - A gubernatorial candidate hires a wormy special assistant whose only job is to make sure the candidate’s well-meaning but incompetent brother doesn’t ruin the election.

Fargo – DTS-HD Master Audio (1996) Crime/Thriller- Jerry Lundegaard’s inept crime falls apart due to his and his henchmen’s bungling and the persistent police work of pregnant Marge Gunderson.

Force 10 from Navarone (1978) - During World War II, several oddly assorted military experts are teamed in a mission to raid and destroy a bridge vital to enemy strategy

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly 179 Minute Italian Cut (1966) Western - A bounty hunting scam joins two men in an uneasy alliance against a third in a race to find a fortune in gold buried in a remote cemetery.

Grudge, The (2004) Horror - An American nurse living and working in Tokyo is exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse, one that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life and spreading to another victim.

Licence to Kill (1989) Action/Thriller - James Bond leaves Her Majesty’s Secret Service to stop an evil drug lord and avenge his best friend, Felix Leiter.

Major League (1989) Comedy – The new owner of the Cleveland Indians puts together a purposely horrible team so they’ll lose and she can move the team. But when the plot is uncovered, they start winning just to spite her

The Man with the Golden Gun DTS-HD Master Audio (1974) Action Thriller -  Bond is led to believe that he is targeted by the world’s most expensive assassin and must hunt him down to stop him.

Wayne’s World (1992) Comedy - Two slacker friends try to promote their public-access cable show.

Wayne’s World (1993) Comedy -The inseparable duo try to organize a rock concert while Wayne must fend off a record producer who has an eye for his girlfriend.
