Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008)

Resident Evil: Degeneration is the full length CGI movie by Capcom and Sony Pictures based on the Resident Evil video game franchise. With closer ties to the game then the live action films Degeneration takes place seven years after the original Raccoon City incident with the T-Virus infection. Claire Redfield is part of group to support those affected by bio-terrorism and medical disasters and now she’s at the Havardville Airport as another outbreak begins to spread. Zombies are on the loose, again! For those who are big fans of the game series you’ll definitely appreciate the nods to the original source and if you’re just a zombie fan you’ll still find some entertainment.
Rating:

So as usual there’s a big conspiracy going on in the Resident Evil realm, the world is still recovering from the T-Virus outbreak. Now as Claire just happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and in the midst of this next outbreak she is reunited with Leon S. Kennedy who’s now a government agent and working to stop the undead. (You know, it’s good to take Leon’s advice and shoot zombies in the head, I really didn’t get why those marines didn’t listen to him?)
As things are contained at the airport the drama is far from over. The next big company, WillPharma, is covering up the truth of the virus’ evolution to the G-Virus and Claire and Leon are determined to stop it.
Overall the film delivers entertainment with zombies doing what they do best. The slow moving fiends come tumbling out of an infected plane and after they fall to the ground they get up and kill whomever they find and make more zombies.
Visually the CGI is slick and shiny, with great detail to the scenery, especially when it comes to the environment of the real world. The plane flying through the sky is beautiful, flaming fire looks great but the characters tend to look a little stiff and are a bit clunky, just like in the game. Story wise the conspiracy stuff is simple but at times the dialogue is just so corny and cheesy.
Having seen the movie at the Egyptian as part of its premiere sponsored by Fangoria and Capom the crowd was filled with horror fans and Capcom employees. When there were big connections in the movie to the games with various characters connection the crowd got really giddy and cheered a lot. All around it was fun and enjoyable. It fills the need if you’re looking for a zombie distraction.

HAHA. You’re lucky I didn’t write this review. Yes, I agree completely on how awesome it looked, and some of the music was downright perfect, but holy crap was some of the dialogue horrible. And, for a CGI film, I was shocked at how much this thing dragged…5/10 from me.
PS. Good review though.
