‘Oldboy’ Not a Remake?

Just wandered over to Bloody-Disgusting and the first thing that popped up was news regarding the remake of ‘Oldboy’. Seems as though it’s not a remake at all. What? Read on for more info.
Since I couldn’t have said it better myself, I’m going to quote BD:
Will Smith explained that theOldboy he’s working on with Steven Spiuelberg isn’t a remake. “We’re looking at that right now,” he tells Film School Rejects. “Not the film though, it’s the original source material. There’s the original comics of ‘Oldboy’ that they made the first film from. And that’s what we’re working from, not an adaptation of the film…” I’m sorry, does it make a difference? The problem isn’t that they’re remaking a masterpiece, it’s that Will Smith and Steven Spielberg are remaking a masterpiece. I can’t wait to see the PG-13 version of this story….
My sentiments exactly. The original film is FROM the source material. The story’s already there. The characters are already there. How are they going to pull this off? This entire thing reeks of an epic failure.
