There are plenty of film ideas we’d all love to see.   I’m sure that every one of us has the idea of what a perfect film should be and are still waiting for that one to come out (and, I’m sure none of us are holding our breath).  And, what’s more infuriating is what big studios tend to churn out.  There are so many ideas and scripts being tossed around each year, that many of the solid structured stories with excellent character development and unique views are looked over for more “cash-sure” films to come out.  I guess they learned their lesson with the remake of Death Race when it was proven that big explosions and some decent actors aren’t enough to bring in the fans (suckers), but I won’t rant about how they should have just stuck with the original story now.  No.  Now, I’m going to talk about the little indie movie that the giants think is worth shelling up the cash to make and give a domestic release.  And, it’s a biopic about the famous designer Chanel, at this point entitled ‘Chanel’.  Wow.  Read on if you dare.

Yes, WB has seen it fit to give us an entire film about the life of the world-famous designer, and as much as it interests me to see what goes on behind the scenes in anyone’s life that achieves that kind of success, I don’t see this one doing that well.  I could be wrong for all I know.  Hell, Audrey Tautou (Amélie, Dirty Pretty Things, The Da Vinci Code) is headlining the film, and she’s an excellent actress, but will she be enough.

The Hollywood Reporter says that they’re even bringing in a big-time art director Karl Lagerfeld to make sure that the designs are up to snuff for a Chanel look.  They’re pulling out all the stops on a film that has all the trappings of an after-school special or an E! True Hollywood Story.
