The Dark Knight Is Breaking Records

Based on some early numbers Deadline Hollywood reports that it looks like The Dark Knight passed Shrek 2 by racing to $400 million dollars in just 18 days after it’s initial release. As an obsessive fanboy I couldn’t be happier. That said. That evil, dark cloud over the film world still hovers, like a thief in the night ready to steal your firstborn and eat their liver in front of you. Damn you Titanic, you don’t deserve your spot, at all. Read on.

So The Dark Knight posts still another best-ever. Media By Numbers is reporting that early estimates show Warner Bros’ latest Batman installment crossing the $400,031,000 domestic gross milestone yesterday after only 18 days in release. This beats 2004’s Shrek 2 and its 43-day sprint to $400 million. Final figures today.

Glancing over the numbers at Box Office Mojo I can’t help but notice all the #1 ranks this film has. Top Movies in the Past 365 Days, Yearly 2008. Yearly Opening Weekends 2008, Worldwide Yearly 2008, Opening Weeks, Opening Day Gross, etc. The Dark Knight is cleaning up nicely. There’s two spots that I’m having trouble believing it will reach, and that’s #1 both domestic and worldwide. That damned juggernaut has made a nice little home for itself far above all other films. Cameron, I hate you.
