There was some speculation, from weeks ago, about the trailer for The Day The Earth Stood still playing in front of Hancock. It didn’t play in front of my screening and if it played in front of anyone else’s, we would’ve heard all about it yesterday. Today is an entirely different story though.
Filmweb.pl posted a Quicktime video of the trailer, though unless you want to wait a few minutes for it to even load and then chug along to the finale, I suggest you skip it. AICN, however, found a link for a YouTube version which, while being lower quality, skips the tedious load time. I expect it to be taken down by the end of the day, if not sometime shortly thereafter, so get it while it’s hot. Check out the embedded trailer inside.
Jennifer Connelly (quite possibly the hottest woman to ever live) and Keanu Reeves (quite possibly one of the worst actors to ever live) star in the remake, directed by Scott Derrickson (Exorcism of Emily Rose, Hellraiser: Inferno) and penned by David Scarpa, whose only writing credit is for 2001’s The Last Castle.

Supposedly, a script review from earlier this year said there was no Gort planned in the remake. However, the last frame of the trailer before the Fox copyright screen at the end has something that looks like Gort’s visor, which a last beam shooting out of it. Looks like they wised up and at least kept in what would be the originals’ most iconic character. As to when this trailer is suppose to play on the big screen, my bet would be with Meet Dave (another Fox release) or Hellboy II.
