Now, Don’t get me wrong, Abel Ferrara is no king of directing, he’s not even a second tier director. But, he does manage to get some solid, powerful performances from his cast; whether it’s Zoë Lund as the victim-turned-murderer in Ms. 45 (a guilty pleasure of mine) or a menacing cop played by Harvey Keitel in 1992’s Bad Lieutenant. That said, of course this film couldn’t be left alone and we’re going to see a remake…soon.
The good news: Val Kilmer is one of the actors and Werner Herzog will direct. The bad news: Xzibit, Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes (event though I couldn’t stop staring at her cleavage in Ghost Rider) are also acting in it.
Cage plays a cop on the edge, and Kilmer will play his partner. Xzibit is playing a nemesis named Big Fade, in a re-imagining of the film.
Re-imagining…where have I heard that before…

Anyway, here’s to the 50/50 chance this will at least turn out halfway decent. Check out the link over at Variety for the full story.

The guy is an acquired taste. You either love or hate the guy. I obviously stand of the love side with the guy.
I don’t think that a remake of this film is a very good idea. I love the idea of Herzog being behind the camera but it is destined to suck. Eva Mendez, Nicolas Cage, Xzibit and Val Kilmer? This film is going to be absolute balls, no matter how hard Herzog works.

Jul 3, 2008 at 7:47 pm -That’s what I was saying. I loved Ms. 45 and enjoyed Bad Lieutenant, but I haven’t seen the other films yet. So, in my eyes he’s 2 for 2. That’s why I’m saying it’s a bad idea to remake this film.

As far as the remake goes, It sounds like its gona suck so much, first off its obiously a pussified version, the graphicness of the original goes out the door, then you have Cage and Mendez who tend to be a hit or miss when it comes to acting… Shit.

Of course, I’m just saying that Kilmer and Herzog give me a touch of hope since they’re both super talented.
