After what seems like years of Hollywood entertaining the idea, a remake of Clash of the Titans appears to finally be set in stone. Originally set to be a pre-strike film for Robert Rodriguez, who turned it down to work on his budget-challenged Barbarella remake, Warner Brothers has finally signed Louis Leterrier to direct, fresh off The Incredible Hulk reboot.
In a race to cross the finish line first, Warner Bros. is trying to get Clash into production before the end of the year to compete with Tarsem Singh’s War of Gods, which will also tackle the subject of Greek culture. If Sony could get their God of War film into production, we could potentially see a three-way of mythological proportions.
The Clash remake seems to have a lot going for it, especially since the buzz on Lawrence Kasdan’s script is outstanding. Even though Rodriguez ultimately ended up not helming the film (for a remake that no studio wants to back because of the Rose McGowen casting), he highly praised Kasdan’s writing before bowing out. It’s just such a shame that they’re going the 300 route with the movie, shooting almost entirely on green screen, as is Singh’s project. It just won’t be the same without Harryhausen’s stop-motion.
Here’s to hoping Bu-Bo the owl is still living large.

Please, don’t let them fuck it up.
