I am just doing my part to promote a movie that I am praying is as good as it seems. The film stars Zach Galifianakis and is deemed a high-concept comedy even though it treads some familiar ground. This is the first film by brothers Jared and Brandon Drake, but the buzz at the film-fests about this film is heavy, and the reviews already coming out from people who have already seen it are glowing. Check out the trailer after the jump.
The plot of Visioneers centers around George Washington Winsterhammerman, one of the many cogs in the wheel of the giant Jeffers Corporation. In this dystopian version of America, everyone toils away at their depressing, unfulfilling jobs and try to just accept that this is their lives and it is best to just get used to it.
Unfortunately, an epidemic is sweeping society. Seems as if people are spontaneously combusting due to pent up stress and unhapiness. George tries to avoid this from happening to him by doing what a lot of us do; convince ourselves that our cubicle jobs aren’t so bad and things could be much worse. But things take a turn when George starts suffering from the first symptoms that usually lead to exploding like dreaming or having aspirations.
The film is being called hilarious and thought-provoking satire of Corporate America that avoids the pitfalls other films have suffered when dealing with this subject matter, in which the message of people sacrificing individualism can feel as though it is being crammed down your throat, or is treated so light-heartedly that aside from some laughs, it provokes no thought. Supposedly, this movie illicits a lot of both. Being one of these cubicle slaves, I am excited about this film, especially after watching the trailer. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this film is actually as good as the reviews it is getting, not only because I would love to see an enlightening comedy and a honest-to-God, GREAT indie film, but I need some new directors to look forward to. Besides, Zach Galifianakis is funny as hell.
Be sure to check out the official site as well. If anyone has checked this out already, what did you think?
