Admittedly, I am not a big fan of these J-sploitation films in any real regard aside from seeing how realistic they can get the gore. So with that being said, that is about as best as I know how to rate the majority ofthese types of extreme gore flicks. For those who are not aware of these types of films, they usually consist of women being mutilated by men, or themselves. That’s about all there is to it. There never really any type of deep story, aside from the violent acts, and it is akin to pseudo-snuff and even fetish in nature. I have seen the more popular titles, such as the Guinea Pig films and a few others, but since I needed to add the J-Sploitation and Extreme Categories, I decided to watch one I have not seen. I picked Tamakichi Anaru’s WOMEN’S FLESH: MY RED GUTS.

Anaru is not only a director of these types of films, having also delivered TUMBLING DOLL OF FLESH to this genre a year earlier and then later SUICIDE DOLLS, he is also responsible for a couple fetish films notable for their titles alone. Titles like MOTHER AND DAUGHTER: SPIT-SWAPPING SEDUCTION and MOTHER AND DAUGHTER: THICK SECRETION SOUP. Maybe we will check those out on another day. Anyway, WOMEN’S FLESH is simply a film detailing two separate women, in two separate shorts, mutilating themselves for no real reason aside from some flashbacks shown during their acts that seem to show some past trauma.

In the first short, a woman is in a bathroom when she begins to masturbate using a toothbrush before chewing of the tip of her index finger and then ultimately, strangling herself. This short is pretty bloody, with no real decent effects to note. The masturbation act is pixelated, even though she pushes the toothbrush through her underwear. She does eventually bleed like a stuck pig, and coupled with the act of biting off of the finger, the floor of the bathroom this all takes place in gets a bit bloody. Overall, this was fairly boring and not even disturbing as much as it was somewhat comical. Maybe the second short will be a little better.

In the second short, a female is sitting on the ground using a fork and knife to carve some fruit. Eventually she gets around to sticking herself with the fork and cutting herself with the knife. After sampling her blood from the utensils, she goes a little deeper and uses the knife to disembowel herself. Not content with just pulling out her intestines, the girl then starts shoving handfuls of her guts in he r mouth, hungrily chewing on the meat. Afterwards, she uses the knife to gut off her tongue. Obviously, from the description, you can guess that this one was the goriest of the two, and I guess it would be the better of the two as well. Even thought the intestines look suspiciously just like sausage links, AND she doesn’t hold her tongue while she cuts it off.

And with that, it’s over. Personally I have no idea why this film is ever recommended. Granted, may be I just don’t “get” this style of film. But if I was, there are much better ones to be watched. Overall WOMEN’S FLESH is is extremely low-budget, terribly acted and the effects are not good. Luckily it is only around 40 minutes long. So if you are a fan of these types of films and are of the completest variety, it would be worth checking out. But if you are not a fan, or only watch these for the gore effects, you shouldn’t waste your time.
