The first time I ever heard about Dragonball was when I was in middle school and some classmates were talking about what they watched after school. One of them said, “When I go home, I toke up and watch Dragonball Z. That show is crazy when your high.”

Well, I was never a smoker, but that afternoon I flipped to over to CN to see what all the fuss was about. Truth be told, I like it. A lot. I watched everyday and was utterly enthralled by it. Lord knows if I was high, at least then I would have had an excuse. A few months later, I lost interest, as every fight seemed to last 15 episodes and it got old. Since then (we’re talking about 9 years people), I’ve never gotten back into it but I know the show went on for a bazillion more episodes and could probably run until the end of time.

Last year, James Wong was announced as the director for a live-action Dragonball film. But contrary to belief, this is not the first time its been done.

In one of the dumbest sequel Ideas I have heard of lately, IGN UK is reporting that Chris Fischer will be directing the sequel to 2001’s Donnie Darko. The film is called S. Darko and centers around Donnie Darko’s sister, Samantha (Daveigh Chase, reprising her role). 7 years after the events of the first film, Samantha and a friend are on a road trip to Las Vegas when they start having strange visions. Chris Fischer, whose films include such dreck as Nightstalker and Rampage: The Hillside Strangler, states that while there will be no Donnie in the film, there will be meteorites and rabbits. Yay.

A few days back, Lionsgate announced they are moving Frank Miller’s The Spirit from January 16, 2009 to Christmas day this year. THR quotes Lionsgate president Tom Ortenberg, “Comic-Con fans (in New York in March) resoundingly confirmed what we felt in our bones about ‘The Spirit’: this is a great film and an irresistible piece of entertainment. … For all of us, it was an easy decision.” But, was this really the best date for the film?

Now this is some good news for video game fans as well as movie fans. Universal Pictures has signed Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy) to direct and produce an adaptation of Take-Two Interactive’s spectacular video game, BioShock. To add to the news, the film will be based on a screenplay by John Logan (Aviator, Any Given Sunday, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, Sweeney Todd).
